Residents from neighborhoods surrounding the Monroe Road corridor have come together to form a grass roots organization known as MoRA – a creative moniker for Monroe Road Advocates. The organization is the evolution of a host of informal meetings and initiatives conducted over the past two years including community workshops, tree lightings, town halls and area improvement projects.
MoRA is working on numerous community projects including a a creative “Foodie Court” that would create a dynamic gathering place complete with a community garden, farmer’s market and food truck events, art and performances by local theater, choral and music groups. The “Foodie Court” is one of ten Charlotte area finalists for a Knight Cities Challenge grant, quite an early accomplishment. We wish them well in their pursuit of the grant.
